2024 09 06 Internet improvement survey for rural communities

THE COUNTY OF FRESNO SOLICITS INPUT FROM RURAL COMMUNITIES
FOR HIGH-SPEED BROADBAND INTERNET PROJECT

FRESNO, CA - Starting Monday, September 9, 2024, the County of Fresno will be seeking input from residents of its rural and unincorporated communities for its High-Speed Broadband Internet Project survey. Responses are needed from the residents of Biola, Calwa, Cantua Creek, Caruthers, Firebaugh, Huron, Lanare, Mendota, Orange Cove, Parlier, Raisin City, Three Rocks, Tranquillity, West Park, and Westside.

The survey link and QR code will be widely shared through social media, prominently featured on the Fresno County website home page, and distributed to community leaders in unincorporated areas as well as at outreach events. For residents without access to technology, the survey can be completed using computers available at the Fresno County Public Library, with branches located in Caruthers, Firebaugh, Mendota, Orange Cove, Parlier, West Fresno, and Tranquillity. The survey will assess how frequently and where residents and businesses currently access the internet and gauge their interest in adopting improved service if available. It will also gather information on the types of training, resources, and workshops that the community may find beneficial. The results will be shared with federal and state government agencies, enabling Fresno County to advocate for better internet infrastructure and resources and actively pursue grants for improved and affordable internet service.

Fresno County recognizes the critical need to bring high-speed broadband internet service to its rural communities which are currently underserved by available Federal and State Broadband Grant Programs. High-speed broadband will enhance internet access for rural residents and businesses using digital devices such as computers, tablets, and smartphones. It will also provide better connections to government services, healthcare, education, and families.
