"Presidential immunity for official acts is crucial to enable any president to fulfill their constitutional duties without fear of politically motivated prosecution. The longstanding legal precedent set by Nixon v. Fitzgerald supports this immunity, both criminal and civil. The Constitution also indicates that former presidents can't be criminally prosecuted for official acts without impeachment. This precedent must apply to all presidents, Republican or Democrat, to maintain the integrity of our democratic process." - Rep. Nancy Mace
