Baltimore Mayor's Office Update on Severe Storm Management

BALTIMORE, MD (Saturday, August 3, 2024) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott issued the following update regarding the severe storm that has caused significant power outages, downed trees, and property damage across the City of Baltimore.

The Baltimore City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated for Artscape and remains activated as the city responds to the storm damage.

For updated weather forecasts and traffic conditions, residents should tune into local news stations, check social media resources and visit the city's Office of Emergency Management webpage.

311 Service Requests

As of 10:23pm, crews from various city agencies are responding to a total of 731 service requests, including more than 400 downed trees and more than 60 traffic light outages.

If you need to report a downed tree, traffic light outage, or any other storm-related service request, please call 311 or use the 311 app to submit them.

Forecast Update

According to the National Weather Service as of 10:23pm, showers and thunderstorms remain likely throughout the night, mainly before 2am. It will be cloudy with a low of 77. Southwest wind around 5 mph will become calm after midnight.

At this time, we are not expecting the remaining storms or showers to be as severe as earlier in the evening.

Ongoing Road Clearing Efforts

Crews from Baltimore City Recreation and Parks (BCRP), Baltimore City Department of Transportation, and the Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) are responding to the more than 400 reports of downed trees across the city. We currently have crews on the street removing debris, starting with main thoroughfares and making their way to side streets. Teams will work throughout the night to clear roadways. Since we are prioritizing clearing roads, crews may leave behind tree debris once roadways are clear. We will go back to clear the remainder of debris next week. Please report any downed trees to 311.

BGE Outage Updates

As of 10:23 PM on August 3, 2024, BGE reported 574 outages impacting 30,430 customers in Baltimore City. BGE crews are actively responding to weather-related power outages. BGE expects to restore service to 80% of customers by 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5.

If you experience a power outage or need to report a downed wire, please call 877.778.2222. BGE asks all customers to report their outage. Outages may also be reported online, by texting OUT to MYBGE (69243), and via BGE's free mobile app available at the Apple Store or GooglePlay.

BGE crews work as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. City agencies have been in contact with BGE to help coordinate efforts.
