LANSING, Mich., August 8, 2024 - Molina Healthcare of Michigan ("Molina") and BeMe Health ("BeMe") have teamed up to provide support to Molina Medicaid foster care youth through BeMe's behavioral health app. Through the app, users can access content tailored to their current mood, engage in skill-building activities, and receive personalized coaching via text directly within the app in a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, it offers connections to clinical services and 24/7 crisis support.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), about 1 in 6 youth ages 12 to 17 report experiencing negative emotions like feeling anxious or stressed out often or all the time. BeMe can support these teens by providing tailored activities based on their recorded mood for the day, and they can engage with friends and family by inviting them to join their personal Mood Crew. The BeMe app can recognize signs of anxiety and depression, directing them to necessary interventions.
"Molina Healthcare of Michigan is committed to providing teen members with resources that support their well-being, and this partnership with BeMe Health tailors mental health support through technology they use daily," said Terrisca Des Jardins, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan. "Because of BeMe's record of success, we are eager to roll out this useful tool to our members."
In a recent assessment conducted in collaboration with Stanford University, 84% of users of the BeMe tool acknowledged BeMe's positive impact on self-esteem, with 90% finding the platform's content beneficial, and 84% expressing the effectiveness of BeMe's coaching. A subsequent pilot evaluation showed users of the tool reported a 20% reduction in moderate or severe anxiety and an 11% decrease in moderate or severe depression.
"Partnerships play an invaluable role in improving the overall well-being of youth," said Nicki Tessler, PsyD, MBA, CEO and co-founder of BeMe Health. "Working side-by-side with Molina Healthcare of Michigan will not just allow us to take on the multifaceted challenges faced by foster care youth, but actually harness our collaborative efforts to both provide the resources needed and intervention strategies warranted."
