At Entergy, we have countless employees who embody the spirit of our organization's ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging, customer centricity and dedication to the communities we serve. These members of the Entergy family bring unique experiences from across the organization and add unwavering value to our journey to building the premier utility.
At Entergy, thousands of employees with unique experiences and backgrounds come together to power life in our communities. Among those dedicated to the company's mission is Florence "Flo" Dumas.
Dumas, whose career at Entergy spans 37 years, is a customer service manager in the River Parishes of St. John the Baptist, St. James and St. Charles.
Previously, she worked as a senior lighting coordinator, service operator and customer service assistant.
"It's truly an honor to work alongside some incredible people and serve our communities," Dumas said. "I learn something new every day, and I enjoy having the opportunity to contribute to projects that make a real difference in the places we call home."
Dumas has worked on some significant projects in the last six months, including a proposal to bring a solar facility to St. James Parish, the company's Beat the Heat efforts that saw the distribution of fans to older adults, a student-development program with St. James Parish School Board called the Salute 1st Training Academy and career fairs at River Parish-area schools.
While not every effort leads to a favorable outcome, Dumas knows that her role comes with purpose, and so long as she's doing work to support her Entergy team and neighbors, she's encouraged and always ready to tackle whatever comes her way.
Dumas added, "Building stakeholder relationships and being visible in our communities is critical to making sure our company is able to gain customer support and loyalty and, ultimately, continue providing service into the future. It's a role I take very seriously because this is where I'm from, and these communities mean so much to me."
Dumas also enjoys spending time volunteering in the community. She received the APEL Volunteer of the Year award in 2015 and currently serves in some capacity with organizations such as the River Region Chamber of Commerce (RRCC), St. John United Way, St. Charles Economic Development Council and American Association of Blacks in Energy.
In addition, she enjoys being active in her church and, recently, became the first African American woman appointed commissioner by Governor Jeff Landry to the Port of South Louisiana.
"To know Flo is to love her," said Michelle Bourg, Entergy Louisiana vice president of customer service. "She's a unique and key contributor to the success of the customer service team. Her vibrant personality, loving demeanor and commitment to get the job done is beyond admirable."
Dumas enjoys spending time with family, traveling and serving in the choir at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and attending Philadelphia Baptist Church with her fiancé.
Join us in thanking Dumas for her unwavering commitment to the company and communities we serve.
