Cahill Obtains Supplementary Preliminary Injunction on Behalf of Microsoft

Date: 07/31/24

Cahill has obtained a supplemental preliminary injunction on behalf of Microsoft in connection with its continuing efforts to disrupt a global cybercrime scheme that has caused substantial harm to Microsoft, its customers, other technology companies, and the public at large. The case was brought against three defendants in Vietnam who have used bots to extract CAPTCHA-defeating tokens from Microsoft's security systems to create hundreds of millions of fraudulent Microsoft email accounts, which have in turn been used to perpetrate ransomware attacks and other forms of cybercrime around the world. In violation of the court's initial preliminary injunction, the defendants reconstituted their unlawful marketplace at a new Internet domain, which Microsoft has now seized, continuing its fight against these bad actors.
