Though IVF gave the White family hope, IVF treatment for military families was largely out of reach due to costs, which the Right to IVF Act seeks to remedy. High resolution available HERE.

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after voting for the Right to IVF Act, which a majority of Senate Republicans opposed for the second time:

"Today, Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would protect in vitro fertilization (IVF). This action reflects the obsessive pursuit by Republicans to control and restrict women's reproductive rights and the ability to plan a family. Women should not have to live in constant fear because their access to essential medical procedures is being compromised by politicians.

"The right to access medical treatments like IVF should not be subject to extreme political agendas. IVF provides many families with the opportunity to start or expand their families, and this basic choice should be protected. The denial of these services harms individuals and also undermines personal autonomy and freedom.

"All Americans deserve the ability to make choices about their family planning without political interference. Senate Republicans blocking this bill is a disappointing setback for those who hope to rely on these proven medical procedures to build their families and for those who seek to live in a world with access to the full range of reproductive health services without fear."
