Flotron Named Director of Public Safety at SEMO

Richard D. Flotron III, Ed.D. has been named as the new Director of Public Safety at Southeast Missouri State University, effective August 1, 2024.

Flotron was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates following a comprehensive national search. He currently works in Hillsboro, Missouri, as deputy sheriff at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Flotron to the University community," said Dr. Carlos Vargas, SEMO President. "His extensive experience in public safety, law enforcement training, and academic leadership will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the safety and well-being of our campus community."

SEMO's Department of Public Safety is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty and staff. The department includes the campus police, parking and transit, and emergency response.

Flotron brings over two decades of experience in law enforcement and public safety. He has served in various leadership roles, including executive director of Public Safety and associate dean of students at Mineral Area College, where he oversaw campus safety operations, Title IX investigations, and the development of emergency response plans.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to come home to my alma mater," said Flotron. "I look forward to working with the entire SEMO community, especially our students."

Flotron holds an Ed.D. in higher education leadership from Missouri Baptist University, an M.S. in criminal justice administration from Lindenwood University, and a B.S. in clinical psychology from Southeast Missouri State University. His academic and professional background positions him well to lead the Department of Public Safety at SEMO.
