Grover Beach to Hold Ribbon-Cutting Event for Mentone Basin Park Pickleball Courts on Sept. 12

The City of Grover Beach is excited to announce the completion of the Mentone Basin Park Pickleball Courts! On Thursday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m., the City will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the park (corner of Trouville Ave & S. 14th Street) to celebrate this new facility offering four permanent pickleball courts for the community to enjoy.

"This is an exciting milestone for our City," said Grover Beach Mayor Karen Bright. "The new pickleball courts represent our Council's commitment to improving recreational spaces and meeting the needs of our growing community. Pickleball has quickly become a beloved sport, and this new facility is a direct response to that demand. We look forward to celebrating this exciting new addition with our residents."

In February 2022, the Grover Beach City Council approved a Pickleball Pilot Program to introduce pickleball to Mentone Basin Park by marking temporary lines on an existing tennis court. The positive community response and the sport's rising popularity led to a discussion about permanently converting the courts for pickleball. In May 2024, the Council approved a recommendation from the Grover Beach Parks, Recreation & Beautification Commission to move forward with a pickleball court conversion. The City continues to offer three tennis courts at Grover Heights Park and Hero Park.

The new pickleball courts feature upgraded temporary nets, allowing the space to be used for other activities when not in use for pickleball. These new courts will offer new recreational options in the City and meet the community's increasing demand for pickleball.

"We've listened to our community's enthusiasm for pickleball, and we're proud to deliver a facility that not only meets current recreational needs but also strengthens our City's quality of life," said Grover Beach City Manager Matthew Bronson. "We look forward to seeing these courts become a vibrant hub of activity for years to come."
