Empowering Every Teammate: Insight’s Commitment to Inclusion Shows in 2024 Disability Equality Index Top Score

When her son was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes less than three months after joining Insight, Michelle Mata, an instructional designer on our Learning & Development team, knew that balancing her work life with her son's needs could be a challenge. But she was quickly provided the flexibility needed to schedule multiple medical appointments to address a treatment plan for the autoimmune disease.

"Even though I was still pretty new to Insight, I felt the full support of my manager and teammates to go take care of what needed to be done for my son. That meant the world to me at a time when the last thing I needed to worry about on top of his health was how I'd get my work done. Having the option to take time off when needed and build a flexible schedule around the extra care of my son allows me to honor my commitments to my family, teammates, partners, and our clients - I'm able to give my best to both Insight and the people I care most about in this whole world," Michelle says.

Michelle's experience is a powerful reminder that realizing Insight's purpose of helping clients unlock the power of people and technology … begins with our own people. Empowering every teammate to reach their full potential - or sometimes overcome life's unexpected challenges - is a crucial ingredient to how our business excels in helping others.

That's why it's particularly fitting that Insight once again has been recognized by Disability:IN as a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion in the 2024 Disability Equality Index® for a second year in a row reflects an ongoing commitment to creating an equitable workplace for everyone, regardless of ability or background.

According to this year's Disability Equality Index report, 93% of participating companies have an officially recognized disability-focused employee resource or affinity group. At Insight, our 11 unique Teammate Resource Groups play a vital role in not only giving our teammates a platform to feel fully represented, but these groups also have become powerful resources for building camaraderie, more dynamic mentorship opportunities, and helping guide our company policies.

Inspired by her experience of receiving additional support from her extended Insight family, Michelle now leads our InsightABILITY group. It offers continuous support for teammates with disabilities, caregivers of children and adults with special needs, and a virtual Self-Care Community space for addressing mental wellness, shared challenges and boosting morale.
