WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement on the passing of his colleague, Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ).

"I am devastated to learn of the passing of my friend and colleague Bill Pascrell. Bill was everything you could hope for in a public servant - smart, passionate and solutions-oriented. During his decades-long career in the House, Bill fought to make sure that government served the people, not the powerful, including by championing fair tax policies for working families as the Ranking Member on the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee. Over the years, Bill and I worked together on efforts to push back on Donald Trump's abuse of the pardon power. Through his work on this issue, I saw firsthand his enduring patriotism and passion for upholding our nation's founding principles. He was beloved in his district and always represented their interests, such as through his work to reduce and prevent brain injuries-an issue he became passionate about after a young constituent died playing football. All of these accomplishments, as well as his service in the Army and advocacy for veterans, helped to cement his legacy as a true statesman. I join his family, friends and constituents in mourning this incredible loss."
