CRC to Host Constitution Day Quiz Bowl September 13

On Friday, Sept. 13, Lee University's Center for Responsible Citizenship (CRC) will host the 14th Annual Constitution Day Quiz Bowl for the Southeast Tennessee region. This year, the competition will include 24 teams from 10 regional high schools and homeschool organizations. Lee President Dr. Paul Conn will offer opening remarks at the start of the event.

The Constitution Bowl celebrates America's founding institutions while supporting healthy patriotism and charitable civic engagement.

"In a time of accentuated political polarization and divisiveness in our country, the Constitution Quiz Bowl brings the next generation together to focus on quintessential American values celebrated and embodied in our founding documents," said Dr. Ana Shippey, associate professor of political science. "It reminds us of who we are as Americans, of what makes us one people, and encourages us to join forces to pursue the common good through civic participation."

Lee students, alongside Lee political science faculty, vet competition scripts, coach teams, mentor individual high school students on the Founding, and run competition rooms.

"Connecting undergraduates and high school students provides a means for Lee students to model the civic virtue of responsible citizenship that we hope to cultivate," said Dr. Thomas Pope, CRC Director and professor of political science at Lee. "I have been pleased with how well this event garners genuine excitement about the American Founding."

The CRC is able to host the Constitution Bowl thanks to the continued support of Lee University; Lee students, alumni, and faculty; the Jack Miller Center; the Ocoee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Institute for Humane Studies; and members of the broader community.

This Quiz Bowl is just one of the many events hosted by the CRC throughout the year.
