Sheriff's Captain greets City Council

A new Sheriff's captain assigned to the North Coastal Station introduced himself to the City Council on July 8.

Capt. Shane Watts, a 23-year veteran of law enforcement, told the council he looks forward to serving Del Mar.

"My commitment to community engagement is what I put first," the captain said.

Earlier, as Watts rose through the ranks, he served as a patrol sergeant at the North Coastal Station in 2017-18 and as a lieutenant in 2021-22.

Located in Encinitas, the North Coastal Station serves that city, Del Mar and Solana Beach within a 60-square-mile coverage area that also includes Rancho Santa Fe, Del Dios, Camp Pendleton and San Onofre.
