Delozier Bill Would Aid Prosecutors, Bolster Community Safety

HARRISBURG-Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) is introducing a bill as part of a larger package of legislation aimed at stopping violent crime and ensuring safer communities across the Commonwealth. Delozier's bill is one of several being brought forward by Republicans in the state House. The bills collectively address crime prevention, policing, prosecution and punishment.
Delozier's bill tackles the issue of prosecution by creating and funding a unit of experienced prosecutors within the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. These prosecutors would be available upon the request of county district attorneys to temporarily work under their direction. Delozier remarked that staffing shortages are often unexpected and pose a significant disruption to a county's justice system.
"As a wife and a mother concerned for the safety of her children, this is an issue that hits close to home not only for me, but for countless people across our Commonwealth," said Delozier. "It's incumbent upon us as concerned citizens and state legislators to put into motion effective, lasting strategies to navigate evolving crime, crime-related issues and increase public safety.
"Our law enforcement officers go above and beyond to ensure their communities are safe. They do an incredible job; but they need to be supported by good policy that empowers them to do their job. The piece of legislation I'm contributing to this package of bills, would do exactly that.
"This is not a partisan issue. This is simply a safeguard to ensure the justice system works swiftly and as intended. I am glad to offer this bill and support my colleagues in our joint efforts to make Pennsylvania a safer place to live, work and raise a family."
