Youth Flag Football is very popular in Mesa and the Youth NFL Flag Football League has expanded this year. This fall, Mesa Parks and Recreation is introducing a new Girls Flag Football League for girls ages 8 to 12 years old and is bringing back their Flag Football Kinder Clinic for kids ages 5 and 6.

Registration is still available for Kinder Clinic until Sept. 20 and for the Girls League until Sept. 30. Kinder Clinic begins Sept. 28 and the Girls League begins Oct. 3.

Flag football is becoming popular and available at the high school levels and we want to extend the opportunity to young girls so they can gain knowledge about the sport, become active and have FUN as well, said Augie Perez, Mesa Recreation Coordinator. This is our third season partnering with NFL Flag Football and the parents and participants have really enjoyed their experiences with us and really like the reversible replica jerseys.

The Kinder Clinic provides a basic introduction to flag football while teaching the fundamentals of the sport, learning about teamwork and just having fun.

The co-ed flag football leagues, with teams in the 7-8, 9-10 and 11-14 age groups are full and Parks and Recreation staff is accommodating those on the waitlist.

Registration fees are some of the lowest in the east valley at just $90 for Mesa residents and $105 for non-residents per participant in the Girls Football League and $75 for Mesa residents and $90 for non-residents per participant for the Kinder Clinic. The City also offers several scholarships and discounts up to 50 percent off registration. These are just a few of the components that make the City of Mesa flag football program one of the best in the Valley:

NFL Flag Football jerseys with NFL team logos on the front

Flag belts are provided for each participant

Six league games of instruction and FUN by the City of Mesa Recreation staff

At least one practice per week beginning Oct. 3 for the Girls League

Guaranteed practice space on well-maintained and lit city fields

All coaches are background checked and trained through the Positive Coaching Alliance partnership with the City of Mesa

Dedicated city staff to provide immediate answers to questions/concerns
