Appointment of Director Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (Aug 2024)

The President, acting in his discretion, has concurred with the advice of the Prime Minister to appoint Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) of Police, Tee Chong Fui Sam, as the Director of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), with effect from 1 September 2024. He will succeed Mr Denis Tang who has served as Director, CPIB since 1 October 2018.

SAC Tee is currently the Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). He joined the Singapore Police Force in 1994. In the course of his career, he has held several senior appointments in the Home Team, including Commander of the Airport Police Division, and Traffic Police, and was also Senior Director of the Joint Operations Group (JOG) in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Headquarters. As Director CNB, he has led CNB to successfully keep Singapore's drug situation under control, arresting and investigating many traffickers and dismantling many drug syndicates, including overseas ones with the help of foreign partners. SAC Tee has also been instrumental in raising drug prevention and education efforts in the community. As Senior Director of JOG, he led the Homefront Crisis Executive Group (HCEG) Secretariat which supported the HCEG and the Multi-Ministry Taskforce in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Denis Tang, who is on secondment to CPIB, has served as its Director for nearly six years. During his tenure, he improved the operational capability of the Bureau, initiated digital transformation projects, and oversaw investigations into several high-profile cases. Mr Tang also strengthened partnership with the private sector in the fight against corruption and forged stronger bilateral cooperation with foreign anti-corruption agencies in ASEAN and beyond. He will be returning to MHA, his parent organisation.
