Romania and Bulgaria agreed upon establishing the Regional Special Operations Component Command in the Black Sea region

As part of the NATO Summit, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, signed in Washington, on Wednesday, July 10th, together with his Bulgarian counterpart, the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Regional Special Operations Component Command in the Black Sea region - HQ R-SOCC.

The Alliance identified, while developing its defensive plans, the need to establish a component-level C2 facility for Special Operations in Black Sea region, which would ensure the synchronization of allied efforts in this region.

Thus, the two defence ministries decided, in accordance with the requirements, to establish a C2 FOS component, which would reflect the common interests with regard to the strengthening of security in the Black Sea region.

"The security and stability of the Black Sea region are a priority of Romania and the Alliance. Together with Bulgaria, we will make up an essential element for the coordination of the Allied Special Forces, consolidating NATO's deterrence and defence posture", Minister Tîlvăr stated.

The establishment of HQ R-SOCC is one of Romania's concrete projects meant to strengthen the allied deterrence and defence posture on the eastern flank, contributing at the same time to increasing the relevance of the Black Sea region, in an allied context.
