Mayor Welch and the City of St. Petersburg Launch We Are St. Pete Fund to Aid Those Impacted by Hurricane Helene

Fund recipients will include St. Pete residents, small businesses, and City of St. Petersburg employees

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (October 2, 2024) - The City of St. Petersburg, in partnership with Pinellas Community Foundation, has launched the We Are St. Pete Fund to assist in fundraising for disaster relief for residents, small businesses, and City of St. Petersburg employees recovering from Hurricane Helene. Donors may designate their gifts. All donations received by the fund will be used to directly support those impacted by the storm.

"Many of our St. Pete residents and small businesses are facing devastation after Hurricane Helene - now is the time to come together as a community," said Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. "The We Are St. Pete Fund will have a direct impact on our community by addressing immediate recovery needs and laying the groundwork for longer-term efforts that will prepare us for future disasters. I encourage those who can to give; every contribution will help us rebuild."

The City of St. Petersburg contributed a substantial gift of $200,000 to the We Are St. Pete Fund. The first $100,000 of that contribution will pay for any administrative costs associated with the fund and allow for 100 percent of each gift to go directly to disaster survivors. The remaining $100,000 will go directly to disaster relief recipients.

Additionally, the We Are St. Pete Fund has already received three major pledges from The Foundation for a Healthy St. Pete, Tampa Bay Rays, and St. Pete residents Trevor Burgess and Gary Hess.

Hurricane Helene has devastated thousands of St. Pete residents and businesses. With a storm surge exceeding six feet and more than 100 miles of roads flooded, many homes, businesses, and vital infrastructure were severely impacted.
