Vikki Hill, the newly appointed Interim Director of Learning Enhancement and Academic Development (LEAD)at Queen Margaret University, has been recognised as Principal Fellowship by AdvanceHE. The awardendorses highly experienced individuals whose practice involves an extensive and sustained record of effectiveness in strategic leadership of high-quality learning.
Vikki was awarded Principal Fellowship for the impact of her work onpass/fail assessment, belonging and compassionate assessment policies and pedagogies.
Her commitment to compassionate leadership, anti-racism, social justice and creating equitable learning experiences for students, whilst creating compassionate conditions for staff also featured strongly.
"Vikki's work contributes to the national conversation about compassionate pedagogy and creative mindsets."Vikki spoke about the importance of collaboration and how working with colleagues and students both in Scotland and transnationally, has been instrumental to achieving recognition.
Vikki's leadership of the QAA Collaborative Enhancement Project, Belonging through Assessment: Pipelines of Compassionbetween UAL, Glasgow School of Art and Leeds Arts University was a key case study as the impact of this has been demonstrated by changes to assessment policy and regulations in HEIs in Scotland and beyond.
"As we developed our new Education Strategy at Glasgow School of Art the QAA collaborative project provided a fantastic space and invaluable opportunities for our staff .... This work has had a strong impact on our institutional thinking..."On receiving the award, Vikki said: "I am delighted to have been awarded Principal Fellowship for my strategic leadership of teaching and learning. My work on compassion, belonging and social justice builds on the shoulders of many others and has been in collaboration with colleagues and students committed to creating equitable and compassionate conditions. I am incredibly grateful for their support, mentorship and encouragement.
