Update: 55-Hour Single Lane Closures, Barrier Work on U.S. 101 San Mateo/Santa Clara County Line to Whipple Ave. Rescheduled

Friday, December 20, 10:00 p.m. through Monday, December 23, 5:00 a.m.

San Mateo County - Caltrans has rescheduled median barrier upgrade work on U.S. 101 between the San Mateo/ Santa Clara County line to Whipple Avenue. Caltrans will close a 2.5-mile section of the North and Southbound Express Lanes (#1 lane) beginning on Friday, December 20 at 10:00 p.m. through Monday, December 23 at 5:00 a.m.

This is the final 55-hour single lane closure scheduled to complete barrier upgrade and related work. Each closure work limits will be a 2.5-mile section. All work will be done outside of Express Lane operational hours. An additional lane may be closed at various times during the closures to facilitate equipment and materials.

All work is weather dependent.

  • August 16 - 19 completed
  • August 23 - 26 completed
  • September 6 - 9 completed
  • September 13 - 16 completed
  • September 27 - 30 completed
  • October 25 - 28 completed
  • November 1 - 4 canceled
  • November 15 - 18 completed
  • November 22 - 25 canceled
  • December 20 - 23 final

Caltrans appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the traveling public as we make progress on upgrading the median barrier along U.S. 101 in San Mateo County.

Utilizing weekend closures significantly reduces the number of nighttime closures needed and increases safety for the workers and the motoring public.
