Recovery a slow process after cyber attack

Posted on Wednesday, August 07, 2024

Cold Lake, AB - The City of Cold Lake continues recovery two weeks after the cyber attack that shut down several systems on July 23, 2024

Since the attack, the City has remained open for services, though with limited capabilities.

"It's our priority to be here for our residents," said CAO Kevin Nagoya. "Our doors have remained open."

The City's phone systems have been reinstated, as well as most of the business software and local computers.

Some online services, such as Citizen Self Service and the live webcams of the marina and the beach were taken offline and remain offline to monitor the security of the City's servers and IT systems as the stage recovering continues.

Residents are still able to pay bills online through their banks or visit City Hall in person to pay by cash, cheque, or credit via third-party OptionPay. Other facilities are either cash-only or with limited options.

  • City Hall: Cash, cheque, or credit (via OptionPay)
  • Energy Centre: Cash or cheque
  • FCSS: Cash or cheque
  • Cold Lake Golf & Winter Club: Cash, debit, or credit
  • Transfer Station: Cash only
  • Marina: Cash only

The City of Cold Lake thanks residents for their continued patience.
