LIRR Announces Schedule Changes Effective Monday, Nov. 11 Due to Amtrak’s East River Tunnel Rehabilitation Project

No Change in Service Levels or Travel Times to or From Manhattan

Schedules Available Online and in the TrainTime App

MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) today announced that new schedules will go into effect on Monday, Nov. 11. These timetables are expected to enable the LIRR to continue to operate full scheduled service when Amtrak takes one of its four East River tubes out of service as it embarks on a long-discussed plan to remediate damage caused by storm surge flooding from Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

"The LIRR is constantly monitoring ridership patterns and customer feedback to ensure we're providing the best experience possible for thousands of daily riders," said LIRR President Rob Free. "These schedule changes are being made to ensure the continuation of our safe and reliable service ahead of Amtrak's work in the East River Tunnels."

Thanks to the opening of Grand Central Madison and recent schedule changes, the impact on Long Island Rail Road Service is expected to be minimal. There is no change in overall service levels or travel times into or out of Manhattan.

During the height of the morning rush hour, two trains will be diverted from Penn Station to Grand Central Madison and some Penn Station arrival and departure times have been adjusted a few minutes earlier or later. Other minor infrastructure projects throughout the system will also result in some minor midday and late-evening time changes on various branches.

There are no changes to weekend schedules. All weekday riders should use the new schedules or the TrainTime app to check for changes to their trip.
