University of Dubuque to Kick Off Academic Year with Spartan Start

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque will kick off the academic year with Spartan Start, an orientation and welcome program for new and transfer students.

"We are excited for the start of a new academic year and the opportunity to welcome, engage, and begin our relationships with our newest Spartans," said Nelson Edmonds, MS, vice president of student engagement and intercollegiate athletics. "Spartan Start provides an opportunity for students to get a sense of what they can contribute to our campus community through engagement with one another as well as opportunities to learn about our communities and to understand the teaching and learning that occurs on our campus on a daily basis."

Spartan Start will be held Monday, August 19, 2024, and Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Activities include an orientation group photo, a special visit from UD President Travis Frampton, PhD, resource sessions, a Dubuque community night and dinner, experiential learning activities, a Unity Barbecue, and more!

Although orientation is optional for transfer students, it is highly recommended. Fall 2024 transfer students may attend both days or select a one-day option for Monday, August 19, 2024.

Before Spartan Start begins, first-year students will move into their residence halls. First-Year Student Move-In will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024. The day will include a University Welcome Dinner for students and their families/guests, evening entertainment, and residence hall meetings.

Fall sport student-athletes and marching band members who are new students were asked to report to campus earlier and received information about their specific move-in dates. Returning students are to move back to campus Monday, August 19, 2024, and Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
