Campbell Law Career Center hosts Small Town Practice panel for students

September 20, 2024
RALEIGH - Campbell Law School's Career and Professional Development Center hosted another popular Small Town Practice panel on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
More than 60 students attended the panel made up of a mix of judges and attorneys, including several alumni, working in government, private firms and nonprofits in small towns across the state.
"We wanted representatives from a variety of small town practice settings so that students could be exposed to a variety of career paths," said Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development MalloryUnderwood. "It's a really great way for students to learn and get access to people who can help connect them to job opportunities in areas where attorneys are needed."
The panelists were:
  • John Marshall '89 of White & Allen P.A.
  • Chris Waivers '14 of White & Allen P.A.
  • Keith Gordon '13 of the Johnston County District Attorney's Office
  • The Honorable District 19D (Moore and Hoke counties) Judge Beth Tanner '08
  • Chistiana Johnson of Legal Aid of North Carolina (Boone)
  • The Honorable former Chief District Court Judge of Rowan County and current Chair of the N.C. Sentencing Commission Charles Brown
  • Jimbo Perry of the N.C. Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism
Professors Richard Waugaman '12 and Jon Powell '98, who encouraged their classes to attend the event, were also present.
White & Allen P.A. generously provided lunch, Underwood said, and panelists stayed afterward to talk one on one with many of the students.
"Networking is one of the most effective ways for students to get summer and post graduate jobs," Underwood added. "It is also the best way to learn about different practice settings and practice areas. That's why we host events like this."
