University of Missouri names director of media relations and public affairs

The University of Missouri has named Christopher Ave as director of media relations and public affairs, effective immediately.

Ave joined Mizzou in December 2023 as director of news and information. In his new position, he will develop and execute a dynamic media relations strategy, focusing on the university's top priorities and reputation while helping amplify the university's voice across all channels. Also, he will provide strategic counsel on media and issues management to university leaders, including the UM Board of Curators. Additionally, Ave's team will oversee public affairs and safety communications for the university. He reports to John Denker, vice chancellor for communications and marketing.

Ave previously served as director of communications for the St. Louis County Department of Public Health and spent a number of years as a journalist, including an 11-year stint as an editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
