CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (July 15, 2024) - The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties have announced Charlotte County earned an eighth-place award in the 22nd annual Digital Counties Survey. The survey, developed in partnership with NACo and conducted by CDG, identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that streamline delivery of government services; provide data analytics to allow decisions based on performance and outcomes; enhance cybersecurity; and apply innovative and emerging technologies to county priorities.

"Charlotte County's embrace of technology has been transformative in how we provide services to our constituents," said Charlotte County Commission Vice Chairman Christopher Constance, who accepted the Digital Counties Survey award at the National Association of Counties conference in Tampa last week. "Whether it is making it easier for contractors to submit plans and permit applications or upload notarized documents and schedule inspections, our digital services save people time and money. In the new age of artificial intelligence, I see us using new tools in a safe, productive way to make us even more effective service providers."

"This year's survey results highlight how counties are responsibly embracing new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence in its various forms and other digital tools and platforms to respond to top priorities of their constituents and elected officials," said Teri Takai, senior vice-president, CDG. "The Center for Digital Government is excited to recognize and congratulate this year's winners for their accomplishments and continuing efforts to use technology to make government better."

"The Digital Counties Survey illustrates how counties are on the cutting-edge, pursuing innovative approaches to serve our residents," said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase. "Counties are thoughtfully adopting technologies like artificial intelligence and data platforms to enhance civic engagement, increase efficiency, and strengthen our communities today and for the future."

Charlotte County placed eighth among counties with a population between 150,000 and 249,999 residents. The county is one of only seven Florida counties to earn the award.

The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy and best practices in state and local government.
