City celebrates opening of Fire Station No. 2

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The City of Fayetteville invites the public to attend the opening of a new fire station on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 8:30 a.m. The event will take place at Fayetteville Fire Station No. 2, located at 113 W. North St.

Speakers for the event will include Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan and Fire Chief Brad Hardin. Parking at the station is limited; carpooling is encouraged.

This project is part of an infrastructure bond program approved by Fayetteville residents as one of 10 separate questions during a special election held in April 2019.

The Fire Facilities Bond provided three additional fire stations, including Station No. 8 on W. Deane Street and Station No. 9 on S. School Avenue, as well as apparatus to support ongoing growth for fire and emergency response. The new facilities are staffed with existing personnel and fire companies.

The new station will replace the existing Fire Station No. 2, located on Garland Avenue near the University of Arkansas campus, allowing the existing structure to be repurposed for use as a logistical support building.

The new Fire Station No. 2 is a 11,000-square-foot facility that includes 3.5 apparatus bays, sleeping quarters with eight bedrooms, a kitchen and dining room, day room, offices and fitness room.

The City analyzes call history and historical response time data using its Geographic Information Systems. Analyses show that if additional fire stations can be placed in the most optimal locations, parts of the city could see a minute decrease in response times, which could have a critical impact for lives and property.
