“Game changing” Healthy Worcestershire programme announces new venues

This comes as the programme continues to grow with new session venues announced for this November.

The group-based sessions hosted by Healthy Worcestershire include exercise such as strength and balance and health advice, plus community safety information with links to a wide range of other health-promoting activities in the local community. New member, Astrid initially joined Healthy Worcestershire to increase her physical activities and socialising, and has described the impact as being a "real game changer".

She said: "I joined Healthy Worcestershire to do the exercises and to socialise. I've never really exercised before so didn't really think it was for me. But having got in here and doing it, it's been really good. I've really felt better, my flexibility and my socialising has been better. The trainer makes exercise easy as they don't make it into a task and he allows you to do exactly what you want, when you want. It's a game changer really because it's so good."

New sessions will be coming in November, hosted across the county, as follows:

  • Fridays - 2pm to 4pm - Father's Barn, 186-210 New Road, Rubery B45 JA
  • Thursdays - launching 14 November - 2pm to 4pm - Burford Village Hall, Penlu Road, Burford, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8LA
  • Fridays - launching 8 November - 10am to midday - Willow Trees Community Centre, Loxley Cl, Redditch B98 9JG
  • Saturdays - launching 30 November - 10am to 11:15am - Batchley Community Centre, B97 6PD
  • Tuesdays - launching 12th November - 6.45pm to 8pm - St Wulstans Church, 52 Cranham Dr, Worcester, WR4 9PA

Councillor David Ross, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, added: "It's wonderful to hear such positive feedback from Astrid. We are continuing to expand the Healthy Worcestershire programme, and we've got even more new venues for our group sessions coming soon. We want to help as many people across the county to have more opportunities to socialise and increase the amount of exercise they are doing. I would encourage anybody hesitating to get involved to take that first step, and sign up for a session near you."
