Rotten City Cultural District (RCCD) Creative Residency Program

Open Call for Artist Residency at Rotten City Cultural District Bay Street Home Base

ABG Art Group is thrilled to announce an open call for their 2025 artist residency program at the Rotten City Cultural District Bay Street Home Base, located in their Flex Gallery space at the Bay Street Shopping Center, Unit 5610. This residency offers emerging and established artists a unique opportunity to develop and exhibit new work in a vibrant, museum style, high-traffic environment. Creatives are encouraged to apply as individuals, collectives or organizations.

Residency Overview:

  • Residency Duration:30 days
    • Work Period: Approximately 20 days
    • Exhibition Period: Approximately 10 days
  • Residency Slots Available: 5 slots for the year 2025 (February, April, June, August, October)
  • Support Provided:
    • Material Deposit: $1,000 provided at the beginning of the residency month to cover material costs.
    • Reimbursable Budget: Up to $1,000 available for exhibition-related expenses, including e-marketing, flyers, installation, labels, window decals, gallery staffing, photography, or other exhibition needs.
    • Exhibition Space: Complimentary use of their professional-looking gallery space at Bay Street, a large, blank white wall space designed to give your work a museum-quality presentation in a bustling shopping center with significant foot traffic.
    • Marketing Support: Comprehensive marketing support, including access to ABG's email lists, newsletters, and promotion through city channels, ensuring your exhibition reaches a wide and diverse audience.

Requirements:

  • District Awareness Collection: As part of the residency program, each artist will be required to create a piece of work in collaboration with the Rotten City Cultural District (RCCD) team. This contribution can take various forms, such as a public artwork, custom signage, a service, performance, digital project, or other creative output. The work will be donated to the RCCD Collection at the conclusion of the residency, with the goal of raising awareness for the district and its cultural significance. During the selection process, applicants will participate in interviews where they will be encouraged to propose specific ideas for their contribution to the RCCD Collection. These ideas should aim to reflect and enhance the identity of the district, adding value through artistic innovation and public engagement..
  • Space Use: Artists are required to have open gallery hours Friday through Sunday 1 PM - 5PM and are beyond that are expected to be present in the space to the extent possible throughout the residency engaging with the public.
