FWACC's Code Red program is now Urgent Placement for Pets

Published on July 07, 2024

Fort Worth Animal Care and Control (FWACC) is renaming its Code Red list to Urgent Placement Pets. This change is intended to better communicate FWACC's needs in providing information about the adopting and fostering of pets.

The Urgent Placement Pets list includes pets that are at risk for euthanasia and in urgent need for placement through adopters, qualified fosters, or rescues. The pets on this list pose safety or health risks to themselves or others, which includes documented behavior concerns such as aggression, reactivity, kennel stress, or severe medical concerns. FWACC, its volunteers, and outside organizations are doing everything possible to treat these animals and find them homes.

The term "Code Red" might accurately portray urgency, however it doesn't fully explain why these pets need help, or how to help them. By renaming this list to Urgent Placement Pets, FWACC aims to effectively communicate the specific needs of these animals. Together, with clear and compassionate communication, we can find the much-needed support for each of these pets.

FWACC leadership, staff, and volunteers at the shelter care about all the animals and truly want the best outcome for each animal. FWACC is currently reviewing protocols to ensure everything being done is in the best interest for the animals and our community. FWACC hopes this change will inspire even more people to step up and help.
