Nash County woman charged with obtaining property by false pretense

RALEIGH
Oct 11, 2024

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Latasha Michelle Regis, 48, of 120 Jackson Road, Nashville. Regis was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony.

According to special agents with the Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division, Regis obtained a payment from Hans Mumm for a residential construction project knowing that the project would not be completed. The value of the payment she received was $132,852.93.

The incident occurred on Nov. 5, 2020, according to the arrest warrants.

Regis was arrested by Franklin County Sherriff's Deputies on Oct. 9. She is currently being held in Wake County Detention Center being held on unrelated charges and is expected to appear in Franklin County District Court on Oct. 16.

"Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet," Commissioner Causey said. "Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I'm fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina."
