Bonamici Secures $60M for WashCo Water Infrastructure

WASHINGTON, DC [7/24/24] - This week the House advanced legislation that includes $60 million for projects to support water infrastructure in Washington County secured by Representative Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01).

The funding was included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024. The combined $60 million will support the Beaverton North Transmission Line Intertie Project and Willamette Water Supply System Improvement (WWSS) Project.

Both projects will make water supply systems in Washington County more seismically resilient, including the construction of a new water transmission main in Beaverton, a water treatment plant near the city of Sherwood, and concrete water reservoir on Cooper Mountain. Bonamici previously secured $3 millionin Community Project Funding for the WWSS project.

"Communities must be able to rely on their water infrastructure, especially in the case of an emergency like an earthquake," said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. "I advocated for Washington County to receive funding for these important projects to upgrade our water systems to meet the needs of this growing community and support it in the years to come."

The legislation also included provisions recommended by Bonamici that would authorize two Army Corps of Engineers projects to assess the efficacy and cost effectiveness of using green infrastructure, bioswales, and other stormwater management practices to capture and prevent microplastic pollution in waterways, including ports, shorelines, and riverbanks.
