Bowie State Leaves Mark on NY Fashion Week

Fashion Students Shine at Harlem Fashion Row

(BOWIE, Md.) - Four Bowie State University students joined with Harlem Fashion Row during New York Fashion Week to experience the entire behind-the-scenes world of one of the fashion industry's most prestigious events. Chief Bentil, Jadyn Hewan, Anisa Watson and Quiana Willett worked alongside industry legends and took on roles that expanded their skills in fashion, media, and entertainment.

"This was a significant moment for our students," said Maggy Francois, an adjunct professor at Bowie State with a wealth of experience in the fashion and film industries. "To see them standing beside such legendary figures, understanding the breadth of the industry, and leaving their mark is an incredible testament to the talent and resilience that comes from our HBCU community."

Harlem's Fashion Row welcomed the students to participate in various roles throughout the event. One of the highlights was the rare opportunity for Bentil, the reigning Mr. Bowie State, to escort some of the most iconic figures in the film, fashion, and entertainment industry, such as Vogue editor Anna Wintour, supermodel Naomi Campbell and supermodel and actress Tracee Ellis Ross.

The students displayed exceptional skill and potential, making their presence felt and their voices heard. New York Fashion Week was more than just an opportunity to gain practical experience, it was a gateway to understanding the broader entertainment industry, where fashion intersects with film, media, and culture.

Through their work, these students have proven that they are the next generation of leaders in fashion and entertainment. They are ready to challenge norms, innovate, and elevate the standards of creativity and inclusion.
