The money will be used for the Legacy Plaza Greenspace Project on the DMACC Newton Campus
The Iowa Sculpture Festival (ISF) recently presented the DMACC Foundation with a $50,000 donation in support of the Legacy Plaza Greenspace project at the DMACC Newton Campus. The donation is part of an initiative to raise $4 million for the new community gathering space that will include a walking path, artwork and pavilion, among other exciting features.
"Following our tradition of celebrating sculpture as the ultimate art form, the ISF proudly presents the Legacy Plaza Greenspace project a donation of $50,000 toward its feature sculpture," said Jack Todd, Center for Arts and Artists (CAA) and ISF Board Chair.
Located where the Maytag Plant One production facility once stood, the Newton Legacy Plaza Greenspace will be the centerpiece of the DMACC Newton Campus and serve to foster community, create connections and beautify Legacy Plaza.
The Greenspace project will connect the five acres on the east side of Buildings 1 and 2 on the DMACC Newton Campus to the adjacent Legacy Plaza. A walking path, decorated with natural vegetation and shade trees, will connect the Campus with the Plaza.
"We are deeply grateful to the Iowa Sculpture Festival for their generous $50,000 contribution to the DMACC Newton Campus Legacy Plaza Greenspace," said Tara Connolly, Executive Director of the DMACC Foundation. "This gift underscores the shared vision of enhancing our community through art, education and collaboration. The Greenspace will serve as a vibrant gathering place, fostering creativity and connection for generations to come. This partnership with the Iowa Sculpture Festival reflects the spirit of Newton's artistic heritage and reinforces our commitment to enriching the lives of DMACC students and the wider community."
When the Legacy Plaza project is complete, it will create a space for current and future DMACC students, residents, and visitors to gather. Gifts of $1,000 or more will be recognized on a donor wall that will complement the sculpture within the Plaza. The donor wall will create a legacy for all donors, along with DMACC students and the community.
Since its inception in 2003, the ISF has established itself as a constant in supporting artists and art education in the community. DMACC and the ISF have celebrated a reciprocally supportive relationship with DMACC having hosted several ISF events over the years.
