City of Alexandria Honors Employees During Veterans Day Ceremony

On Thursday, November 7, The City of Alexandria proudly held its ninth annual Veterans Appreciation Employee Event, bringing City officials and staff together to celebrate and honor employees who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This event, a staple in the City's yearly calendar, highlights the City's commitment to recognizing its workforce.

Held at City Hall, the event commenced with a presentation of colors by the Alexandria Joint Public Safety Honor Guard, followed by remarks from Mayor Justin Wilson and City Manager James Parajon. Both were joined by keynote speakers Mari K. Eder, Major General U.S. Army (Retired), and Senior Vice President of Operations and Engineering at Transurban, Terry Suehr.

"On Veterans Day and throughout the year, we say thank you to those who have served," Mayor Wilson said. "The City has been able to benefit from the experiences and knowledge you have developed in service to our country as you continue to serve our residents," he continued.

"We honor our veterans today and every day," remarked Parajon. "Our veteran employees bring a wealth of unique skills and experiences to our City workforce, from leadership and discipline to problem-solving and teamwork."

Following the remarks, staff were presented with custom challenge coins in honor of their service.
