Boston Police Celebrates National Police Woman’s Day 2024

Today we celebrate "National Police Woman Day" and honor all of the contributions and achievements of women in the Boston Police Department and across our nation. There have been trailblazers who have opened doors for women in policing in our Department and we are proud that the Boston Police Department is surpassing the national average for women in our Department and among our leadership.

The recruitment and retention of women officers is a key part of our efforts at BPD. We want to intentionally recruit to encourage diversity in our Department to ensure we reflect those we serve.

Along with expressing gratitude to these officers each year on September 12th, National Police Woman Day provides a platform where law enforcement bodies can advocate for stronger female representation and we have great opportunities available for women here at BPD. In 2023, Mayor Wu and Police Commissioner Cox signed the 30×30 Pledge. The initiative aims for departments to have 30% of their recruits to be women by 2030. To learn more visit @30x30initiative.
