TAKE AN ADVENTURE WITH GRUG AT DUBBO REGIONAL THEATRE

Be transported into the whimsical world of Grug when this classic Aussie hero with a big personality takes a leap from the page to the stage at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) in Windmill Theatre Company's award-winning production.

Based on the much-loved picture book character created by Ted Prior, Grug has charmed audiences of all ages with its endearing story of a top of a Burrawang tree falling to the ground and coming to life. Resembling a small, striped haystack with feet and a nose, Grug is fascinated by the world around him and solves everyday problems creatively and without fuss.

Through Windmill's distinctive house style and renowned fusion of puppetry, storytelling, and imaginative set design, the production transports audiences into the nostalgic world of Grug, allowing them to join the beloved character on some of his most exciting adventures.

Windmill Executive Director Ross McHenry said he was excited for the upcoming tour.

"We are thrilled to bring Grug back to Australian stages. Grug's timeless appeal continues to resonate with audiences young and old, and we can't wait to share his magical world with regional communities across Australia."

The production, which premiered in 2010 and was co-commissioned by Queensland Performing Arts Centre's Out of the Box Festival, is directed by Sam Haren. It features design by Jonathon Oxlade (Bluey's Big Play) and an original composition by DJ TR!P. To date, the production has been seen by over 60,000 audience members worldwide.

Performing Arts and Venues Coordinator Tiffany Rowland said Grug appeals to the region's youngest theatre goers and reminds us of the magic of childhood.

"Windmill Theatre Company is highly regarded in the industry as one of the leading producers of contemporary theatrical works for children, teens and families."

"We are thrilled to present work that is suitable for the littlies, being two years to six years, so they too can experience the joy of live performance," Ms Rowland said.

You can see Windmill Theatre Company's adaptation of Grug on Wednesday 31 July, 12pm at 6pm and Thursday 1 August at 10am.
