Atmos Energy’s Latest CRS Report Demonstrates Commitment to Safety, Integrity, and Sustainability

DALLAS - Sept. 26, 2024 - With a focus on safety that is reflected in the vital role natural gas plays in fueling our energy future, Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) has released its latest Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CRS) Report. The report highlights accomplishments in safety, system modernization, customer service, environmental sustainability, and Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities. The CRS Report illustrates Atmos Energy's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy which aligns with our vision, our AtmoSpirit principles, and with our purpose and corporate strategy. Select highlights across each section of the report include:

Safety

Through our robust safety and technical training programs, our employees acquire the skills to perform their work safely. In fiscal year 2023, employees across our enterprise spent more than 9,000 hours on safety training and attended over 96,000 safety huddles. Additionally, we directed approximately 85 percent of our capital spending toward the continued safe and reliable operation of our distribution, transmission, and storage systems.

Environmental and Operational Sustainability

Atmos Energy is working towards a goal to reduce methane emissions from our natural gas distribution system mains and services by 50 percent from 2017 to 2035; we have achieved an approximate 23 percent reduction as of Dec. 31, 2023.

Employees

In calendar year 2023, 62 percent of Atmos Energy new hires were minority and women, and people who retired from the company had an average service tenure of 25 years. Overall, Atmos Energy has an average employee tenure of 11 years - nearly three times the national average.

Community

Through our commitment to Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities, Atmos Energy donated more than $12 million in fiscal year 2023 to support 1,400 nonprofit organizations in the places where we live, work, and serve. Atmos Energy also partners with local agencies to host "energy blitzes" that provide access to energy assistance funding. In 2023, through intentional outreach, education, and communication with community action agencies, nonprofits, and customers, Atmos Energy helped approximately 62,000 households gain access to $29 million through LIHEAP, Sharing the Warmth, and other energy assistance programs.

Governance

Atmos Energy's Code of Conduct outlines our deep commitment to corporate responsibility, employee respect, and our culture. Our active employees complete Code of Conduct Training annually, keeping our vision in sharp focus and reinforcing how to identify and deal with ethical issues such as conflicts of interest, gifts and entertainment, use of confidential information, fair dealing, protection of corporate assets, and compliance with rules and regulations protecting safety and the environment.

While the CRS Report primarily covers Atmos Energy's activities during the 2023 fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023), certain data points in the report are measured on a calendar year basis and thus reflect information collected during the 2023 calendar year.
