New survey examines individuals' experiences

A recent survey of Black women in Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus - conducted by the CEO Project - provides insight into their individual experiences with the health care system in Ohio. Policy Matters Ohio's new report combines survey findings with analysis of other public health research to illustrate how systemic problems impact individuals, families, and communities - especially Black women.

"A person's freedom to live a healthy life shouldn't depend on their race or gender," said report co-author, Policy Matters researcher Kathryn Poe. "But for Black women in Ohio, that is the reality - often because of decisions by state legislators. The good news is that policy solutions can improve health equity and health outcomes for Black women and all Ohioans."

On September 26, Poe will join leaders from the Care Economy Organizing (CEO) Project at a press event to highlight powerful firsthand accounts from Black women whose lives have been directly impacted by the health care disparities revealed in the survey. The event will begin at 10:00 AM in the Ladies Gallery at the Ohio Statehouse.
