CTDOT is Developing Plans to Provide Improvements on I-95 Southbound, at Interchanges 71 and 72 in Old Lyme and East Lyme

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to provide improvements on I-95 southbound, at Interchanges 71 and 72 in Old Lyme and East Lyme.

The project involves eliminating the short weaving section by combining and relocating Exit 71 and 72 off-ramps, approximately 1,450-feet north of the existing Exit 72 location. The realigned off-ramp will form a new intersection with Rocky Neck Connector. Access to 4 Mile River Rd. and I-95 Southbound will be provided from the new intersection.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in the Fall of 2027, with construction anticipated to start in the Spring of 2028, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with ninety percent (90%) Federal and ten percent (10%) State funds.

It is the CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken and is important that the community share its concerns with the Department to assist in the project's development. If anyone has any questions or comments on this project, please contact Sebastian A. Cannamela, Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-2698 or by email at [email protected]. Please make reference to State Project No. 0104-0117.
