Fire Weather Watch in Santa Rosa

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for a majority of the Bay Area, including all of Santa Rosa, from Thursday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. through Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m.

During this time period, Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, and gusts up to 50 mph across ridgetops are forecasted. Humidity as low as 15 percent during the day and less than 40 percent overnight is also expected.

Following the cooler temperature and recent rains, warm, dry, and windy weather is forecasted for later this week. The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity. Despite relative humidity being on the higher end of critical fire weather criteria, the NWS is expecting a widespread and prolonged offshore wind event which will likely dry fuels out very quickly.
