A man is facing a manslaughter charge after this morning's shooting in the Hazelwood Neighborhood.
Following the shooting call, Michael J. English, 33, of Portland, was undergoing treatment at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital for injuries connected to the shooting on Southeast 146th Avenue. At about 9:45 a.m., he was permitted to change clothes in private, but took advantage of the situation and fled out of the room. PPB launched an immediate search, and brought in resources including Air Support Unit, the drone unit, and K9 unit. OHSU Police and VA Hospital Police also partnered on the search to locate English. Shortly before 11:00 a.m., VA Police located and arrested English, and he was transferred back to PPB officers. He was then interviewed by Homicide Detectives.
English was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the Manslaughter in the First Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

One woman is deceased and a man is injured after a shooting in the Hazelwood Neighborhood.
On Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:06 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a shooting inside an apartment in the 00 block of Northeast 146th Avenue. When officers arrived they located an adult female deceased at the scene. An injured male was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Based on initial investigation at the scene, officers are not currently seeking any suspects.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, Northeast 146th Avenue is closed between East Burnside Street and Northeast Everett Street.
