Dear Marquette students:

As we begin a new school year, there are many reasons to be excited about and proud to be part of Marquette University. Recent rankings named Marquette No. 1 in the nation for community service and in the top 20 for undergraduate teaching, and we recently recorded the highest first- to second-year retention rate in university history. A Marquette degree is in demand, and our students graduate prepared to succeed professionally and lead with purpose.

As Marquette prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2031, we are aware that higher education needs to adapt. There are fewer high school students, the costs of running a university continue to increase, and many in our society question the value of a college degree. We recognize these challenges and are committed to facing them head on.

Our Strategic Plan 2031, Guided by Mission, Inspired to Change, provides an aspirational, actionable path forward that is grounded in our Catholic, Jesuit mission. At the same time, we need to find ways that we can reduce costs and generate new revenue opportunities so that we remain financially strong long into the future. Recently, the co-chairs of our Marquette 2031: Securing Our Future initiative shared the Securing Our Future Steering Committee recommendations to start us on that path. You can read more here.

At its very core, Marquette exists to serve you, our students. Through the formation of hearts and minds, we prepare you to thrive as agents of positive change. Your holistic development - mind, body, spirit - remains our top priority. Guided by our Catholic, Jesuit mission, we know that by serving you, our students, we are serving and giving glory to God.

Thank you for choosing Marquette. We pledge to work together to build on our strong foundation and ensure Marquette University thrives for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kimo Ah Yun
Acting President
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
