NI Water team get volunteering off to a flying start with RSPB

NI Water's North Foreshore One Team, who are working on designs for the upgrade of Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) at Whitehouse, Carrickfergus and Greenisland, recently volunteered to support the RSPB.

Colleagues from NI Water, Stantec, GRAHAM, MWH Treatment and RPS started the day with a visit to the RSPB's 'Window to Wildlife', home to birds and wildlife from around the world. The team helped remove the invasive ragwort weed before focusing on the Whitehouse Lagoon adjacent to Whitehouse WwTW. A successful beach comb saw the team tidy along the shoreline, collecting litter and waste from the beach. The Whitehouse Lagoon is a popular feeding ground for many different species of birds, including Great Crested Grebes, Oystercatchers and Black-tailed Godwits.

Bob McGarvey, NI Water Senior Project Manager for the North Foreshore WwTW said: "It was great to be able to help and support the RSPB and to learn more about the important work that the charity carries out across NI. The team got a real buzz from the volunteering, and seeing the positive impact of their efforts made the day even more worthwhile. We look forward to continuing to support the work of the RSPB - one of our chosen charities - as we move forward with the North Foreshore project as part of the Living With Water in Belfast Programme."
