Big City Mayors Chair Todd Gloria Issues Statement on Inclusion of Homelessness Funding in State Budget

SAN DIEGO - Mayor Todd Gloria, chair of the California Big City Mayors coalition, issued the following statement on the inclusion of $1 billion in Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention Funding in the state's final Fiscal Year 2025 budget:

"Budgets are statements of priorities, and there is no higher priority in the state of California than reducing homelessness. As mayors of California's 13 largest cities, we are grateful to Gov. Gavin Newsom, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, and Senate pro Tempore Mike McGuire for allocating $1 billion for the Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) Program Round 6 in the final state budget agreement.

"Through our sustained advocacy, we have been calling for this continuation of HHAP funding, which is allowing us to expand shelter capacity, grow street outreach teams, and build more temporary and permanent housing options.

"To date, the Big 13 have used HHAP funding to stand up 15,772 shelter beds and place more than 42,000 people into temporary and permanent housing. These funds are critical to our ongoing efforts to make homelessness in California rare, brief and nonrecurring."
