Rep. Schiff Announces $853,000 to Combat Youth Homelessness, Expand Mental Health Services

Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) announced that $853,000 will be delivered to Los Angeles and Burbank community partners to expand mental health services and outreach to youth victims of crime. These critical investments in the safety of our communities are being delivered as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Community Project Funding (CPF) awards that Schiff successfully secured during the FY24 appropriations process.

"The funding we successfully secured will provide much-needed resources to combat youth homelessness while boosting access to critical mental health services. I'll continue working with community partners to deliver the support and mental health services needed for Californians to thrive," said Rep. Schiff.

Of the total amount, $200,000 will go to the City of Burbank Police Department's Mental Health Evaluation Team (MHET), which uses a co-response model to calls for service involving individuals experiencing mental illness in need of crisis intervention and linkage to resources and services.

In addition, a $653,000 grant will be provided to Covenant House California to enhance their street outreach efforts. This funding will enable them to work closely with local law enforcement to support homeless youth who are victims of crime, including sexual and physical assault, violence, human trafficking, and identity theft.
