The Marietta Police Department Hosts Pinning Ceremony for Three Newly Promoted Officers

MARIETTA, GA - The Marietta Police Department hosted a promotional pinning ceremony on October 29, 2024, at 9:00 AM for friends, family, and coworkers of the three newly promoted staff. We are honored to announce the promotions of Sergeant Henderson, Lieutenant Slatton, and Major Collins. Chief Beam thanked the family members for supporting their loved ones, and the promotees for their hard work and dedication to serving our community. Each member promoted was pinned with their new badge by a family member of their choosing.

Congratulations to each of the newly promotees:

Sergeant Henderson
Sergeant Henderson has been an officer with the Marietta Police Department since September 7, 2004. Before his career at MPD, he was in the United States Army stationed at Fort Bragg as a member of the 3/325th Airborne Infantry Regiment. After leaving the military, he worked for BellSouth Telecommunications and the corporate office of The Home Depot. As a patrol officer, he served in various assignments throughout the department including Uniform Patrol, SWAT, STEP, and Detectives/Crime Scene Unit. He has also participated in several extra duties such as Zone 2 Management, Risk Analysis Board, PAL, and the MPD Recruitment Team. Sergeant Henderson has obtained state Crime Scene Technician certification and has received the following awards at the Marietta Police department: MPD Officer of the Quarter 2008, MPD Difference Maker Award 2008, Cobb County Law Enforcement Outstanding Performance Award 2012, MPD Distinguished Service Award 2012, and the Marietta Rotary Club Officer of the Year Award 2021. Sergeant Henderson is enrolled in Columbia Southern University where he is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a concentration in forensics. He and his wife Andrea currently reside in Dallas and have two children, Gillian and Kimber.

Lieutenant Slatton
Lieutenant Slatton joined the Marietta Police Department over 22 years ago on July 1, 2002. He holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Georgia State University, and a master's degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University. During Lieutenant Slatton's career he has served in various assignments throughout the department including Uniform Patrol, the Crime Interdiction Unit, and S.T.E.P. He also served on the Critical Response Team for over 10 years as both a patrol officer and sergeant. Lieutenant Slatton is a recipient of the department's Medal of Meritorious Service. In 2014, he co-founded the department's R.A.D. women's self-defense classes. The program was recognized by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce with a Public Safety Recognition Award. Most importantly, he has been married to his wife, Mandi, for 21 years and they have 3 awesome children.

Major Collins
Major Collins joined the Marietta Police Department on April 19, 2002. He has over 34 years of experience in public safety, with the last 23 years spent at MPD. Major Collins holds a master's degree in emergency service management from Columbia Southern University and is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. He is also a licensed paramedic in Georgia and holds board certification as a tactical paramedic (TP-C). During his time at the Marietta Police Department, Major Collins has worked in the Investigative Services Division, Uniform Patrol Division, Crime Interdiction Unit, Gang Enforcement Unit, Training Unit, and the department's Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

Major Collins has received several awards, including Marietta's Alex G. Newsome award for Supervisor of the Year, the Medal of Meritorious Service, five Distinguished Service Awards, a Difference Maker Award, and recognition in the tactical medicine community for outstanding service and leadership. In his personal life, Major Collins has been happily married to his wife, Shannon, for 34 years. They have three sons, Jonathan, Matthew, and Joshua, and one daughter, Morgan.
