New degrees of study available to Blazers this fall

New degree programs provide students with even more options to learn from world-renowned faculty and researchers.Students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will have the opportunity to explore new fields of study starting this fall.

"We are proud to offer these new options for fields of study to our students," said Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Janet Woodruff-Borden, Ph.D. "We are committed to providing current, and future, Blazers a top-tier education in partnership with our talented faculty, and these programs are a reflection of this."

Human rights

The Bachelor of Arts degree in human rights combines lessons in multiple disciplines from the College of Arts and Sciences such as ethics, political science, anthropology and philosophy for a multi-faceted approach to human rights and the pursuit of justice.

The program offers the unique opportunity to study civil rights through the lens of Birmingham's own significant history in the Civil Rights Movement while also developing skills in research, critical thinking and analysis. Students can choose between a research-focused capstone project or an internship with on-campus and off-campus opportunities to apply their education in a professional work environment.

New concentration in Bachelor of Arts in Music

A concentration in music therapy is now available as a fourth option to students in the Bachelor of Arts in Music program in the College of Arts and Sciences.

New concentration in Bachelor of Arts in Art

A concentration in graphic and digital design is now available to students in the Bachelor of Arts in Art program in the College of Arts and Sciences.

New undergraduate certificates

Three new undergraduate certificates are available, including, Nutrition and Dietetics in the School of Health Professions, Organizational Communication in the Collat School of Business and Wellness Program Design and Management in the Collat School of Business.

New delivery method for Master of Science in Health Physics

The M.S. in Health Physics in the School of Health Professions is now available to students 100 percent online.

Blazing forward

The Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences in the School of Health Professions is now accepting students for spring 2025 semester for two new Graduate Certificate programs.

The Graduate Certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a tailored curriculum that explores topics in MRI instrumentation, sequencing and applications to patient care. In this program, students will develop cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills, as well as receive didactic and clinical training in MRI for professional practice.

The Graduate Certificate in Computed Tomography combines cognitive, psychomotor, affective skills and didactic and clinical training. The certificate can be paired with the MS in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Sciences program or taken separately after earning a primary certification in radiography, nuclear medicine or radiation therapy.
