Following Push from Senator Collins, Limestone Port of Entry will Remain Open During Construction

Washington, D.C. - Following an effort led by U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the General Services Administration (GSA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that the Land Port of Entry (LPOE) in Limestone will remain open during the construction phase of the proposed modernization project.

Senator Collins sent a letter to GSA after hearing concerns from constituents about the possibility that the Limestone LPOE could close during construction.

"The Land Port of Entry in Limestone serves as an essential connection for the region's economy, and it is used regularly by American and Canadian citizens alike. Many residents cross at the Limestone LPOE to travel to and from work each day, and others use this route to receive medical care and visit family members, places of worship, and businesses on the other side of the border," said Senator Collins. "I am pleased that GSA and CBP have confirmed that the LPOE will remain open during this modernization project, which will help to improve operational efficiency and security."

The modernization project at Limestone LPOE is supported by the more than $150 million included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to modernize five land ports of entry along the Maine border with Canada. Senator Collins, Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee, was part of the core group of 10 Senators who negotiated the text of the bipartisan infrastructure law.
