Fast facts:
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Kalin Construction Co. Inc. are wrapping up work on the final year of the $10.1 million investment to rebuild and repave more than 3.5 miles of M-40 in Lawton, Van Buren County.
This evening, southbound M-40 will reopen, along with northbound M-40 and all cross streets north of 4th Street. With access to Lawton's downtown restored, work will continue through Monday, Oct. 14, when northbound M-40 will reopen south of 4th Street, including the 4th Street intersection.
The project has been delayed several weeks, mostly by Amtrak rebuilding the railroad crossing and issues with the village water lines. While there still will be some remaining work, including pavement markings and rumble strips, there will be limited impacts on traffic.
